I was 'hacked' too. I 'friend' went into my account, removed me from my guild, deleted my 3 characters and 140k gold (whether or not he took the or deleted it I do not know.)

Amoung my characters was a monk who had every monk skill in the game, all towns unlocked, both protector titles and 3 15k armors.

I lost all this and I have never posted a topic whining to the community. I simply started anew. I have no sympathy for you.

i'm glad you had the will to keep playing. but thankfully in this world we're not all clones with the same reactions and considering the option for me would be quitting i guess i have the right to try eveything i can.
i have sympathy for you losing your characters, don't care whose fault it was.

In which case my only advice for you is to have a life outside of GW, that way, when something like this happens it wont be such a big deal.

GW is a game, and it's that fact that made it easy for me to start over after everything was deleted.

I just think, if someone deserved it to get their character back, it was you. All your titles show so much dedication to the game, that you just deserve it. Checked the 'Show your title progress' thread in Screenshot Forum enough to see all of your incredible titles. I just think A-net should do something about it. Give back your mesmer or something else, but just something for one of their most dedicated players IMO.

I would think a true sign of dedication would be not for this person to whine for their account to be restored, but for them to do all those things again.

I really feel terribly sorry for you. I just don't know what I would do if this would happen to me. I would not mind at all if your account was restored, even with all the gold, materials or whatever else you happended to have on your characters or in your storage at the moment it was deleted. There’s really only one person here to blame and that’s the one who hacked your account and deleted all your belongings.

Good luck and don’t lose hope.

Who in the hell cares if GW is just a game? The point is, a shitload of time was put into the character, and obviously had many achievements. So what if someone actually cares about their character. If you spend alot of time on something, doesn't matter what it is, you will get hurt whenever it is taken away from you.
And please, don't try to insult someone by saying "get a life". Worst and stupidest thing to say in any game. You and her/him are obviously different, so how she/he plays is actually none of your business.
Just stay on the topic, she/he didn't ask if you had any sympathy in the problem, just wants to know if anyone can help.

All I can say is I feel for you. I know what it's like to lose things in video games and be pissed over it. Reminds me of my Diablo 2 days where my lightning sorceress gear was stolen ><. Over $200 dollars worth of gear if I decided to sell it....

Anyway, good luck on getting the character back, unfortunatly, I don't think anything will happen .

Well, if you put so much time in your account, and it would be hacked and your character would be deleted, would you think the same? Don't think so

Fact of the matter is it's a game and getting upset over wasted time - time we waste on purpose - is pointless. Really how is having 6 sets of FoW going to help you in life?

When something like this happens, you lose nothing but time you were already throwing away.

Simply incredible. What is wrong with some of you people?

Vahn, your 'holier than thou' attitude is disgusting. You make blatant assumptions about Guinevere and try to justify them with 'I lost everything too'. The difference is what you lost is so incredibly nothing in comparison, and that it was far more directly caused by your own stupidity. It's alot easier to start over when you lose alot less, and when you already mention you split time among characters rather than dedicating yourself. Quite like a person saying 'I got UAX by myself, how is it fair other people get to buy them in the shop?' It doesn't and shouldn't matter to you, what you achieve and value are what you do.

Resp, just shut up. You're senseless and if protecting one's achievements is an 'inability to think of other things except a game', then I don't see why you even bother posting here. Go, be free outside, dance around chasing butterflies. Not to mention people can have friends in-game.

It's fairly clear that Anet should have a backup of character profiles that they can restore to players. The fact that they can rollback proves the capability. A character backup, regardless of whether Anet feels a heavily developed character is important or not, is as sensible to have as a reconnect feature, and both should be available to all players.

Nothing more to say... already knew about this, and there's not much I can do here.

Really? The fact that they don't do account restoration says a lot. Which means that they don't do backups for the benefit of the consumer they are supposed to serve.

How they choose or are able to do restorations on any level, system wide, or account wide is entirely up to them. I am pretty sure that they are technically able to do an individual backup, but have a policy against it for reasons that are their own. We have to trust they are valid.
We should we trust that that DENYING a simple account restoration is valid? Even when the account was hacked? Guild Wars/ArenaNET is the FIRST online game company that doesn't do account restoration after a valid hacking.

If you read above I said that the same thing happened to me two weeks ago. Granted I was frustrated at first but it was easy for me to get over it. I started over and I'm still playing.

wow...I feel bad and it's not even me. I enjoyed watching Guinevere posting up her titles as she got closer and closer to KoaBD, and then 6/5, 7/5 etc. The fact that there's even an account like this in the game (and r7 :O) is insane. I think Anet should do the right thing, and fix the account back the way it was, as it's partly their fault people are being hacked.

But seriously, if you decide to play again Guinevere, feel free to pm me, I'd love to help you get back the amazing title screen which you spent so much time achieving.

Everyone is so quick to call arrogance when someone doesn't total kiss ass.

I feel if anything the fact that I have been through this gives more than enough right to express my opinions on this matter how I see fit, thank you.

He/she wasn't insulting, he/she just told him to get a life outside GW. Because it was obvious that Guinevere Ac put ALOT freetime in his character.

sure i did. months/hours played give an average 4 hours a day, mostly played this summer when i truly rushed for titles playing a lot.
it's the main point. would never be able to restart such a character from scratch now. we're not on holidays anymore. 4+ hours a day to play guild wars is something i can only dream of so nope, can't start a new character making that complete and my only alternative to quitting is having my old mesmer back in a way or another.

Guinevere Ac:

I know exacticalyl how you feel. About a month ago my account was hacked much in the same way that youre was. my password wasnt even in english...

but i lost 3 characters in full fissure, rare req 8 weapons, perfect items, titles, materials, various things that i had collected and used in my time in guildwars. My monk was the monk my main character that had well over 3 million in items/armors/skills capped/etc.. warrior, ele, ranger all had about 2 mill each invested...

As in your post on GWonline, i too have screenshots of my character idling in the guildhall while they took everything off my account and even laughed and bragged to my guildmates about them doing it just for the fact they could. and even with these screenshots sent in by multiple people from my guild/aliance (in different aliance now), sadly there was nothing that i could do to get those characters back.

Its heartbreaking to know how much you work for something that you want and something that you invest so much time into to have taken from you. All i can say is please dont give up[. when u give up they truly win as they have taken your spirit. while yes its hard to start over, a month later i have almost rebuilt my account (granted not to the point of where it was) to where i have similar items, while not as rare serve the same purpose, and settles on a less expensive armor for now than fow. i have all my chars back, some redone from female to male for a change, and back to being able to compete in gvg with them as per my choosing.

i can tell that you loved playing your account and your character and i can relate to how you feel as per what happened to you, just dont give up. If its what you want, then youll get it back, just going to take a little time and patience and a few good friends to help ya along the way. if im not in gvg, ill be more than glad to help ya in any way i can for map exploring, missions, etc... just message me in game

Again, sorry for your loss

I know I posted on the alliance forums, but I still can't believe someone would hack your character. I was there with Minus as I stared in horror as I saw a level 1 Assassin show up in the GH with your name

I don't see why Anet couldn't do this. We KNOW they have character backups, because of the rollback they did earlier. Here they would only need to restore one (or a few) characters and be done.

Especially since the hacking was apparently a result of a bug in the online store. (Right? I'm guessing cleartext passwords on an unencrypted protocol with a packet sniffer upstream? or maybe they were directly hacked and the password file was unencrypted)

They should just say, "Oopsie, since this was our bad, we'll restore the affected characters" .....Sort of a 'One Time Only character restoration'
